What is new for this year?
The Ford’s Black appearance package which had a black grille design and 18 inches wheels, is now also equipped with bedside decals and new black oval badges. For adding more diversity to the exterior, Ford has included 4 more colors which are the Carbonized grey, cactus grey, velocity blue and cyber orange.
If someone wants extra performance and value, Ford advises them to go for the base variant, XL extended cab model which is termed as the “SuperCab”. This model boasts all ride quality and expertise similar to the other Rangers but due to the rear drive configuration, smaller interior and lesser standard features, it is not as heavy as Lariat or XLT.
This means that it’s speed and acceleration will definitely be faster. The model arrives with an automated emergency braking and Forward Collision Warning which is only available in other brands higher trims. However, the SuperCrew model is outstanding as well.
It boasts a crew-cab body type and comes with a 4-wheel drive dressed in the mid level XLT trim. The 302A package contains the dual zone climate control, heated seats, 8 inches touchscreen and a leather wrapped steering wheel.
Power and Performance
Ford Ranger is a midsize pickup truck which is available in two body styles having 2 bed lengths. The two trim levels are named as XL ( base variant) and Lariat (luxurious model). Both of them are fueled by a turbocharged 4 cylinder 2.3 liter engine which is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
This transmission is superior because it offers fast and agile shifts. The output of the engine is 270 hp and 310 Nm torque. For convenience to ride on all types of terrains, both 4- and rear- wheel drives are available. The rear drive models provide the ground clearance of 8.4 inches whereas the 4-wheel drive models give 8.9 inches.
However, there is no trail conquering variant. But people looking for more road prowess should give a try to the off-road FX4 package. This is a capable package having a specially tuned suspension, a locking rear differential and sportier tires. A Terrain Management System is offered as well which tweaks transmission gearing and engine response.
This increases the performance of the vehicle on all types of terrains. The 4 drive models given are: Normal, Sand, Ruts/ mud and Snow/ gravel/ grass/. As for the towing capacity, the optional tow package offers 7500 pounds. During towing, the power delivery is consistent and flexible. The payload capacity is more than 1860 pounds.
Ford Ranger 2021 with the rear wheel drive has a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Whereas the all-wheel drive gives the fuel efficiency of 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Sneak peek to the inside
Since the Ford Ranger is available in either the crew cab (SuperCrew) or the larger cab (SuperCab), we will be explaining interior respective to both. The extended SuperCrew can accommodate 5 passengers and arrives with 4 big sized doors.
On the other side, SuperCab offers space for 4 passengers and has 2 smaller half doors. The overall materials and styling are inconsistent and dull due to the addition of inferior plastic. Both the variants are comfortable with easy controls.
The base XL model is equipped with some connectivity and infotainment features which include a single USB port, 4 speaker AM and FM radio system and a WiFi hotspot which can easily connect to 10 devices.
By upgrading to Lariat or XLT trims, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, an 8 inches touchscreen and SiriusXM satellite radio are offered. Other available features are a 10 speaker Bang Olufsen Audio system and an integrated navigation system.
